IEG honours the memory of Susan Boettcher.

The IEG mourns the loss of its alumna Susan R. Boettcher, who passed away on 14 April 2024 at the age of 55. Susan Boettcher was a postdoctoral fellow at the IEG in Mainz in 1999.

Susan Boettcher studied history and Spanish at Trinity University in St Antonio/TX and in Guadalajara; in 1992 she earned an MA and in 1998 a Ph.D. in history at UW Madison/WI under the supervision of Robert M. Kingdon. From 1995-98 she was an associate member of the DFG-GK "Church and Society in the 15th and 16th Centuries" in Göttingen. The IEG supported Boettcher with a postdoctoral fellowship in 1999. She has taught history at the University of Rolla/MO, the University of Texas in Austin/TX and the University of Southern Florida in Fort Lauderdale/FL. She specialises in early modern German and European history, especially the history of the Lutheran Reformation.
